RVWA Symposium Opens Focused on Mindset, Success

CHICAGO – The RV Women’s Alliance (RVWA) launched its fifth annual educational symposium Wednesday with a challenging and motivational talk from speaker Dr. Amber Selking. With a message focused on achieving your dreams, Selking used brain science to outline a five-step principle to changing your everyday mindset.

Selking described that what people think and what they tell themselves ultimately shapes their reality and limits their ability to achieve their dreams. Between negative self-talk and past life experiences people actually develop neural pathways that keep them in a rut. Selking illustrated her point by showing a video of how neural pathways develop in brain science.

According to Selking, in a matter of thirty days, the brain can take and develop new thoughts based on how people change their mindsets to a more positive message about themselves. Dr. Selking showed a video of legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi talking about winning is a habit. Winning begins with how people think.

Selking walked through five steps: mindsets, values, motivation, confidence and habits which help people develop their dreams into reality in the face of adversity. Thoughts develop emotions which create a physiological response and change performance.

Selking stayed on to lead a panel of industry veterans through a series of questions about their careers and how they handled working in predominately male-dominated industry. The panel included Jennet Lewis, director of West Coast Sales of NTP-Stag, Susan Carpenter, aftermarket sales manager of B&B Molders and Tracy Anglemeyer, district sales manager of Valto Engineered Materials.

The women each spoke about how their personal qualities shaped their careers and how somewhat unknowingly they filled a gap and set a path for other women in the industry during their careers. Anglemeyer specifically mentioned how much she has received out of being a mentor to other women in the industry, learning from her mentees.

The symposium concludes today at the Schaumburg Marriott in suburban Chicago. Today’s schedule will focus on educational seminars and end with the RV Women’s Alliance award celebration (see: RVWA Names Industry Champions Finalists for Annual Awards for previous coverage).
